It is with deep sorrow and aching hearts that we announce the passing of Sophia Jackson, a bright and beloved 9th grade student at Cuba-Rushford Central School District, who passed away unexpectedly.
Sophia’s untimely departure has shaken the entire Cuba community. Her school, her friends, her teachers, and all who knew her are mourning the loss of a kind, joyful soul who brought light and warmth to every room she entered.
The Cuba-Rushford School District shared a heartfelt statement following the news:
“Anytime we face the death of a young member of our community, it impacts our entire school district. Counselors will be available for students and staff in need of support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sophia and her family.”
Those who knew Sophia describe her as someone with a rare and gentle magic — a girl who made others feel seen, appreciated, and loved. She was the kind of person who never failed to share a compliment in the hallway, brighten someone’s day, or offer a smile that felt like sunshine.
Her friend Emma Kerr shared a moving tribute:
“Sophia Jackson was, by far, one of the sweetest girls I have ever had the pleasure and privilege of calling a friend. She could always find something nice to say about someone. Her presence will be unbelievably missed. Her absence is heavy, but the love she left behind is heavier. We’ll carry it with us. Always.”
Another mourner, Kerrie Nye Webb, wrote:
“My heart breaks for the family and friends of this sweet girl. I will never forget her smile and laugh. Rest in peace, sweet girl.”
Sophia’s life, though brief, was full of kindness, light, and the kind of love that leaves a lasting imprint. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her friends, her classmates, her teachers, and her family, who must now carry on without her but with the love she gave so freely.
She is survived by her loving family, many dear friends, and a school community that will never forget the joy she brought into their lives.
